Realism

Realism is a art movement that come about in the mid 19th century realism is the opposite to romanticism, realism artist believe everything should be as true in a painting as it is when seen, this is the reason why many french artist disagreed and didn't like the portrait of Henri Matisse wife.

Steve Dent this painting is of St Micheal mount in Cornwall, Steve Dent drew realism photos of manly Cornwall as he moved to live there.
This image give a feel of rough english seas along with a sense or fairy tales, because of the building on the land.

A View near Volterra - 1830

Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot is a realism artist and in 1838 he painted a image of a man riding up a hill on his horse. He paints the stones with so much detail that it looks almost 3D it reminds me of early 3D animation, this is the simple reason why i like this image. If you look close on the left hand side at the top blue sky, you can also see he has use more then one colour, he used a mixture of blue, light blues, whites and greys, it also looks like he used a hint of purple in the grey clouds.

Romanticism

Romanticism is a movement that took place in the 18th century in the west of europe, romanticism came in different forms, not only paintings, but music and writing.
The name of this painting is "Moonlit landscape" and was painted by "Washington Allston" in 1809
This image makes me feeling of calm and safety.
In the way there is a full moon shining brightly and reflecting off the water also lighting up the skies around it. The people on horses walking towards the water and light give a feel of peacefulness like "walking into the light and meeting God"
I got this image from: http://www.1st-art-gallery.com/Washington-Allston/Moonlit-Landscape,-1809.html
Romanticism music was around the 1820s to 1910 with the likes of Beethoven and E.T.A Hoffman.

Rankin

Along with a lot of his fashion photography Rankin is able to take quality digitally enhanced photos.
For example this front cover image for the magazine "Beth Ditto" ( A band member of the indie rock band "The Gossip")
The reason why I have pick Rankin is because he has great photography collection on his website that explores many areas of photography, as he is not afraid to think and work outside the box.
I first heard about him when he was doing a exhibition called "Rankin live." He asked for members of the public all over the UK to come along so he could take a portrait photo of them.
In this photo the obvious area where he used digital software is on the lips of Beth Ditto and the lips around her.
