Multimedia

Multimedia is something that the audience can interact with, this can be things like, ipods i tunes ect.
Film or a book couldn't be considered as multimedia as the audience cannot take part, the director or author is in full control. pantomime is more interactive than film and theater.
The red button is a good example of multimedia as you can interact with TV programs, see the weather when you want and on certain red buttons listen to music, catch up on TV programmes and watch films at the time suitable for you.
Authors and directors have tried to make books and tv shows interactive in turn becoming a part of multimedia. One director that has tried this is Luke Hyams he is the wirter and director of a bbc drama called Dubplate drama shown on the bbc. At the end of the show the audience would be able to text in and pick what happens in the next show from a choice of three. This allowed the viewer to have some sort of control.
Multimedia should immerse the audience a game that does this is called the Sims 3 compared to the first and second games gives you much more freedom to explore and make the game your own. The Sims was created by maxis. The Sim's is a stimulation of real life.

Futurism

Futurism is a Italian movement around 1910 the type of work they
produce is energetic, dynamic, and violent quality an example futurism work is famous artist Carlo Carra.
Funeral of the anarchist galli - Carlo Carra
This image show people fighting, you can just figure out that they are people as they are emerging from the red violent colours.
I got this image from: http://www.toqonline.com/2009/10/the-worlds-first-terrorists/
Futurism doesnt just come in the form of painting it also covers ceramics, sculpture, industrial design, Graphic design, film, fashion, textiles, interior design, theatre, literature, music, architecture.
An example of futurism in fashion is fausto sarli she done a collection in 2008 that was describe by critic as “the show had a curvy, retro futurist quality whether with cashmere apple-shaped jackets or mega frilled Art Deco columns for evening.”
Then continued this for her summer collection and we can clearly see that she had be inspired by the futurism movement.
The critics described this one as “futuristic aero-painting” print that looked a lot like watered-down Italian Futurism…”

surrealism

Surrealism is a 20th century movement of artists and writers this includes Surrealist music music and film.
Separation - Edvard Munch
This is a surreal image but still has a story behind it, by the figures in the image it shows a bride walking away, possibility at the altar, the male figures is grabbing his heart as to show heart break. The vale of the brides dress disappears into the distance suggesting they have come a long way in their relationship. The colours of the background are dark and gloomy creating a cold, painful feeling.
I got this image from: http://inillotempore.com/blog/pivot/entry.php?id=194
Another artist that was involved in the surrealusm movement is Giorgio De Chirico
L'Angoisse du départ - Giorgio De Chirico
This image gives a chilling effect as we can see both silhouette of the little girl and a male figure but we know the little girl is not aware of her the danger ahead of her. Although if you continue to study this image your perception can change she could be running towards the male figure as it is reaching sunset, she could be on her way home, she could even be runny away from danger instead of towards it.

Abstract art

Kazimir Malevich - Black square 1915
Daring art work that i believe able the gallery goers and audience create their own abstract art.
Abstract art is a form of colour and line to create a composition which shows independence within the drawing also show freeness.
Music is also a form of abstract art as it can generate meaning feeling and memory for one person.

Another artist that's work is abstract and has seem to influenced some illustrators is Theo van Doesburg with his famous painting Elementarism: Counter-Composition XVI in dissonances. 1925.

I got this image from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Theo_van_Doesburg_Contra-Composition_XVI.jpg

Art Deco

Art deco is a art movement that comes in the form architect, jewelry, furniture and many more.
You can tell somethings art deco by the symmetrical shapes.
Art deco is the opposite of art nouvaeu, where everything is curly and curvy lining.
A good example of Art deco in the form of architect is Rockefeller Center in new york.

The straight and square like shapes and likey symmetrical shape is this main difference between art deco and art nouveau.
Battersea power station is an example of art deco in the capital along with the art deco exhibition in the V & A containing objects of art deco from bookbinding to works
on paper.

Art Nouveau

Art Nouveau
I got this image from: http://5preciousthings.blogspot.com/2008/08/illustration.html
The Peacocks Skirt by Aubrey Beardsley (1894).
This piece of art nouveau comes from the illustration's of the book "The Peacocks Skirt"
The oval and flowery detail is what gives it the nouveau feel. Being line drawings Aubrey would of taken lots of time to do each single detail. The way in which the bottom of the clothing is oval, unlike normal clothing along with the very fine detail creating shapes puts this image under the movement of Art nouveau.
The style of art nouveau is curvy lines, flowers, leave, roots ect furniture, architecture and jewelery has been influenced by Art nouveau, for example Charles Rennie Mackintosh made furniture influenced by art nouveau.
The Chair - Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
I got this image from : http://flann4.wordpress.com/2008/03/07/three-design-movements-1-arts-and-crafts/
Nothing like a normal chair, he thought outside of the box and made the back of the chair longer then normal and made the view points oval shapes giving the chair overall a oval look. He also went on the great a whole room like this.

This mask was used for a ceremony in the 19th century. Just from this mask you can see how artist where influenced by African culture.
An example is "The Young Ladies of Avignon" by Picasso the painting is clearly influenced by this mask as it have similar resemblance to the women on the far right. I got these images from : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Picasso%27s_African_Period
Pablo Picasso had a 2 year African culture influence phase where the majority of his work was base and inspired by African culture.
A contemporary artist who goes by the name of "Kehinde Wiley" has been influence by African culture, he is known for turning art from history into contemporary African paintings.

Impressionism

Impressionism is created through colours and paint brush strokes to create the light, Impressionism is different to other paintings as the artists want to show their view of something rather than whats really there. You will also find that most impressionism artists paints are more like photography taken from a camera for example:
la promenade monet By Claude Monet
This painting looks as if Claude Monet bent down below the women and took a picture, the way the painting is in motion looks as if its a desistive moment photograph.
I got this image from: http://www.artquotes.net/masters/monet/la-promenade.htm

Another artist thats paintings look like images and to prove that impressionium is all about the painters perception on the object is "Gustave Caillebotte."

La place de l'europe By Guatave caillebotte.
This painting shows that Guatave caillebotte painted his own view of the object, however he could have just painted the surrowings leaving out the people.
The brush strokes and the way he showed light and reflection all comes together to make the painted more real.
I got this image from: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gustave_Caillebotte_-_La_Place_de_l%27Europe,_temps_de_pluie.jpg

Post impressionism

Post impressionism followed impressionism.
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is a post impressionism painter he was one of the greatest of his time.
he set now records for auctions with his painting "La blanchisseuse"

Realism

Realism is a art movement that come about in the mid 19th century realism is the opposite to romanticism, realism artist believe everything should be as true in a painting as it is when seen, this is the reason why many french artist disagreed and didn't like the portrait of Henri Matisse wife.

Steve Dent this painting is of St Micheal mount in Cornwall, Steve Dent drew realism photos of manly Cornwall as he moved to live there.
This image give a feel of rough english seas along with a sense or fairy tales, because of the building on the land.
I got this image from : http://www.the-art-of-steve-dent.co.uk/home.html\

A View near Volterra - 1830

Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot is a realism artist and in 1838 he painted a image of a man riding up a hill on his horse. He paints the stones with so much detail that it looks almost 3D it reminds me of early 3D animation, this is the simple reason why i like this image. If you look close on the left hand side at the top blue sky, you can also see he has use more then one colour, he used a mixture of blue, light blues, whites and greys, it also looks like he used a hint of purple in the grey clouds.

I got this image from: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:A_View_near_Volterra-1838-Jean-Baptiste-Camille_Corot.jpg

Romanticism

Romanticism is a movement that took place in the 18th century in the west of europe, romanticism came in different forms, not only paintings, but music and writing.
The name of this painting is "Moonlit landscape" and was painted by "Washington Allston" in 1809
This image makes me feeling of calm and safety.
In the way there is a full moon shining brightly and reflecting off the water also lighting up the skies around it. The people on horses walking towards the water and light give a feel of peacefulness like "walking into the light and meeting God"
I got this image from: http://www.1st-art-gallery.com/Washington-Allston/Moonlit-Landscape,-1809.html
Romanticism music was around the 1820s to 1910 with the likes of Beethoven and E.T.A Hoffman.

Rankin

Along with a lot of his fashion photography Rankin is able to take quality digitally enhanced photos.
For example this front cover image for the magazine "Beth Ditto" ( A band member of the indie rock band "The Gossip")
The reason why I have pick Rankin is because he has great photography collection on his website that explores many areas of photography, as he is not afraid to think and work outside the box.
I first heard about him when he was doing a exhibition called "Rankin live." He asked for members of the public all over the UK to come along so he could take a portrait photo of them.
In this photo the obvious area where he used digital software is on the lips of Beth Ditto and the lips around her.
I got this image from: http://homotography.blogspot.com/2009/04/beth-ditto-dazed-confused-cover-rankin.html
